The Prayer for Rain

If you live in a climate where a lot of rain falls throughout the year, you probably consider rain a discomfort. But in the Mediterranean climate of Israel, rain is always a blessing.

Sukkot marks the onset of the rainy season. Rabbis of 2000 years ago, called Sukkot the day of the Day of Judgment of the rain". They decided that on the eighth day of Succoth, the added day, called "Shemini Atzeret", we would pray for a rainy year. Is it not interesting that on one particular day Jews all over the world pray for rain to fall in a particular place in the world?
