Sukkot

The Man from Hatzerim

1988

In recent years we have expanded the custom of building sukkot (tabernacles), in order to give further expression to this wonderful festival – every neighbourhood competes with its neighbour to build the most beautiful Sukkah, for the enjoyment of both children and adults. There is no more spectacular show that expresses kibbutz “togetherness” than this, when adults and children, members of both genders, the residents of one neighbourhood, each person making his own contribution to the glorification of the neighbourhood Sukkah. And this with a sense of festive “togetherness”, which reaches its peak on the eve of Sukkot, when everyone gathers in the Sukkah for singing and entertainment and small talk in the spirit of the evening, which penetrates through the branches of the leafy roof covering.
