Yoav Porat

The First Wounded Man

Sdamot, Platform of the Kibbutz Movement, Volume 53, Winter 5734, p. 59

The first wounded man

I bandaged him in desperate wonder.

And then more arrived.

And then more arrived.

And then more arrived, and more, and more…

I pressed on his flesh

With a shaking hand

And internal peace.

I bandaged the death from his clothes

And he cried no more

And had the courage

And sighed a soft sigh

Before crying again in pain

And then more arrived, and more, and more,

And more
