Yom Kippur

My Mount Moria

Summer 1977

They took me to Moria

At midday.

I took nothing with me,

Except for my dog tags and so on.

I crossed the war by storm

On the way to the mountain

Marching with heart pumping.

I only asked to write in thick blood:

“The order of the day shot me from ambush. They were strong. Yitzhak.”

I rushed to the altar like that son

But the ram that was brought beneath me was my brother Yosef

And I did not know whether they would agree to the exchange.

So I went down through the mines to the other side,

To another outpost.
