Gamliel A.
Milk on the forehead / Morocco
Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov Ichud, 1967
We read the Passover Haggadah twice. The first time in Hebrew and then after each section we would stop and read the Moroccan version, in the same way and with the same tunes.
On the conclusion of the festival several families gathered together. One family would come to visit the other, accepting and offering refreshments, drinking “Le’chaim”, tasting and carrying on to visit another family.
We the children would go to our grandfather, so that he would bless us. Grandfather would take a spring of mint, dip it in milk and spread the milk on our foreheads and bless us.
