Rabbi Shimon the son of Lakish says: The Holy-One-Blessed-be-He gives man an extra soul as Shabbat sets in and on the night Shabbat is over, it is taken from him (Exodus 31,17) as it states: "He ceased work and he rested" – since he had already rested – alas, a soul is lost!
