Delight or Torah Study
From the Book of Aggadah – Medrash Pesikta (Medrash Haftarah), chapter 23:10
Rabbi Brachia said in the name of Rabbi Chiah the son of Abba: Shabbat was not given for a purpose other than pleasure. Rabbi Chagai in the name of Rabbi Samuel, the son of Nachman says: Shabbat was not given for a purpose aside of - Torah study. And their opinions are not contradictory.
What Rabbi Chagai says in the name of Rabbi Samuel the son of Berachiah in the name of Rabbi Chiah the son of Abba refers to when mentioning pleasure – these are Torah sages, being that they toil over Torah study all week long and on Shabbat they come and take pleasure: And what Rabbi Chagai in the name of Rabbi Samuel the son of Nachman refers to are the laborers, who are occupied with their professions all week long and on Shabbat they come and engage in Torah study.
