Chad Gadya - Caspi

Lyrics: Binyamin Caspi

Melody: Moshe Bic

Listen my friends, lend your ears
To a tale about one kid so dear
It isn't fiction – it's actually real
It's in the "Haggadah" read by the Pesach meal

Chad Gadya...

To the market father went
And bought a kid with a pure soft scent
It is this kid, a kid of a goat
Which he, with merely 2 zuz had bought

Chad Gadya...

A long whiskered cat
Devised a wicked plan
It stretched out its paws
And devoured the kid in its claws

Chad Gadya...

Watching this with a frown
A puppy sitting on the ground
Simply couldn't take this sight
Until he gave the cat – a bite!

Chad Gadya...

Just then a stick leaped ahead and...
Stroke the puppy on its head
And with a bout of anger too
Hit the puppy through and through!

Chad Gadya...

Then a spark got all excited
And lit that stick that got ignited
Yes, the fire was whom to blame
That from the stick were no remains!

Chad Gadya...

A wave of water then swished by
Swept the fire till it died
Swiftly did the flame calm down
Till it mingled with the ground!

Chad Gadya...

An ox then strolled up to the lake
And seeing the water, took a lick
But its thirst it did not quench
Until it dried the lake like a trench!

Chad Gadya...

A butcher came and saw the ox
Large and heavy as a filled-up box
So he sharpened his knife very well - to slaughter
And made a meal of the ox who drank all the water.

Chad Gadya...

And then from heaven an angel descended
And did away with the butcher
Who couldn't hold back
Who slaughtered the ox and was then paid back!

Chad Gadya...

Then from heaven a voice called out:
"Stop the evil from where it starts!"
From the earth all crime must cease!
And from now and forever may there be only peace!
