Holocaust Remembrance Day

Avraham Shlonsky

Vow

Because of my eyes that saw the bereavement

And the cries loaded on my burdened heart

Because of my mercy that I have instructed to forgive

Until the days come that threaten forgiveness

I have vowed a vow: to remember everything

To remember – and not to forget anything.

Nothing will be forgotten – until the tenth generation

Until the cessation of my affront until everyone and all of you

Until all the tribal morality will be able.

For God’s sake if for nothing the night of rage shall pass

For God’s sake if in the morning I return to my path

And I will learn nothing, this time too.
