Yom Hazikaron

Mirik Garzi

Basalt

Beit Hashita

This land that we are standing upon

Our land of hills

Safeguards in its bosom our loves

Piles of black basalt –

Cleared of stones

Overlook the spreading fields

Embroidered

Yellow, green, red, an abundance of colours

The boys, the girls, the ordered graves

Bind us

Here

Deepen our planted feet

Is it possible to anoint

Again and again to anoint, to attempt

Almighty, Almighty,

That there be no more?

As it is written:

See I set before you today life

And you chose life
