Bar and Bat Mitzvah
As A Sign & as A Memory

Yitzhak Rivkind

For hundreds of years a familial celebration has developed in Judaism, a religious and educational celebration of the Bar Mitzvah. It is been consolidated over time on its fundamental principles and has received an all encompassing style for all Jews, like other festivals, throughout the generations, ceremonies and Seder services, various customs and experiences. Thus too the Bar Mitzvah celebration takes various forms between the tribes of Israel in the Diaspora, the kibbutz and its customs, the agricultural settlement and its ceremonies, the Galilee and its order of happiness. Every movement and direction in Judaism, party and status in the nation has a part in its creation and its consolidation.
