Greeting Shabbat in Rosh Hashana
Going to the Light/Ehud Banai
This path begins here
between the bank branch and the fountain
It's not paved, not always marked
This path begins here.
It crosses town
Goes up the mountain
Continues to the sea
Continues tomorrow as well
Cuts the air, between the houses
It's paved out to the light, to new life.
Walk on it, walk on it now
Angel birds from above
follow your steps
From far a light is turned on
Don't digress so you can get back.
This song begins here
Blue on a white page
Not complete, not always devised
This song begins here
It crosses town
Goes up the mountain
Continues to the sea
Continues tomorrow as well
Cuts the air, in between people
It's paved out to the light, to new life.
Walk on it...
We'll Pour Wine and Recite the Blessing
We shall bless over the vine and the fruit of the vine, and the produce of the field, and over the delightful, good and expansive land, over the accomplishments of the passing year and the opening of the new year.
Let us hope it will be beautiful and different, a year of regeneration and growth, creativity and peace.
To life!
Based on the Shabbat blessing of Kfar Szold
(Narration) At the Moment /Vered Mosenson
At the moment
The new year
touches the heels of
the passing year –
the trees change their formation
to a tense stand at attention
and for a short moment
the world restores to a state of chaos
and the spirit of the Lord hovers
over the passing year
that is gone
Due to the hand of the new year
holding on to its heel,
trying to detain for a moment
the moment of truth
the minute it would take on
the responsibility
to everything that occurs
from now on.
It's an immense undertaking
to be a new year –
To commit to the chance,
to invalidate the terrible forecasts
that were predicted
by all those who experienced
misfortune in the previous year.
What a great responsibility
does the new year take upon itself
in the moment
it lets go
the heels of the previous year
and allows it to disappear
and to leave it entirely alone
On Rosh Hashanah
Lyrics and Music: Naomi Shemer
On Rosh Hashana, on Rosh Hashana
A rose blossomed in my garden
On Rosh Hashana a white boat
Docked at the beach all of a sudden
On Rosh Hashana, on Rosh Hashana
Our hearts answered in an old prayer
That this year will be beautiful and different
Which begins today
On Rosh Hashana, on Rosh Hashana
A cloud bloomed in the autumn sky
Rosh Hashana is a violinist of the soul
A squill flower turns on in the field
On Rosh Hashana, on Rosh Hashana...
On Rosh Hashana, on Rosh Hashana...
A melody bloomed, that no one knew
And within 24 hours the song was heard
From all the city windows
On Rosh Hashana, on Rosh Hashana...
Dip a piece of apple in honey and recite the blessing
May it be the will that a sweet and good year be renewed upon us from the beginning until the end of the year.
The Twelve Months
Lyrics and Music: Naomi Shemer
In Tishrei the palm tree gave
a cute dark brown fruit.
in Cheshvan the first rain fell
and danced on my roof.
In Kislev a narcissus appeared
in Tevet - hail,
and in Shevat the sun broke through
for one day.
In Adar a fragrance rose
from the orchards.
In Nisan all the sickles
were strongly wielded.
In Iyar - everything grew,
in Sivan - ripening.
In Tamuz & Av we rejoiced
after the harvest.
Tishrei, Cheshvan, Kislev, Tevet,
passed, went by in a rush.
Also Shevat, Adar, Nisan, Iyar,
Sivan, Tamuz and Av.
And in the coming of Elul to us
the fragrance of autumn rose,
and we began our song
from the beginning...
