Yehieh Peretz

Eat and enjoy / Morocco

Revivim, 1999

Matzas are the most annoying thing at Passover. So many sauces, of all types – and nothing to dip in them – we were always waiting for the end of the festival.

And then came the Maimouna preparations.

The Arabs came with flour and sheaves, fresh milk, fresh cream and butter and honey – straight from nature. And the Maimouna started!

Jewish and Arab neighbours came into our home. A joint celebration for everyone. And the main celebration – in the evening Eat and Enjoy, the traditional blessing, heard from every home and every corner of the street.
